Parker Beine signs with Jeff Co
News-Democrat March 6, 2014
Belleville West senior Parker Beine may soon realize his goal of pitching at the Division I level, but for now he understands that a strong junior college program could help him get there.
Beine, a hard-throwing right-hander who has been clocked as high as 88 mph, recently gave a verbal commitment to Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo.
Southwestern Illinois and Lake Land were among the other junior colleges interested in Beine, while Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois also showed interest.
"The big attraction with Jefferson is their track record," said Beine, who earned second-team News-Democrat All-Area honors last spring. "They were No. 2 in the nation two years ago and they've been to back-to-back Junior College World Series appearances (2011 and 2012). They've sent quite a few kids to pretty big Division I colleges, too."
The Vikings were 36-16 last season and won their seventh straight Midwest Community College Athletic conference title.
Beine was 6-5 with a 2.26 ERA last spring as a junior, leading the Maroons in appearances (17), innings pitched (55 2/3) and strikeouts (49).

Hot from start to finish, Junior 1 put together a fantastic season going 37-6-1. The team won the District 22 regular season, the District 22 Tournament, the Fifth Division Tournament, and the State Tournament. During the regular season, Jr 1 beat teams from 4 states. The team's impressive playoff run featured a perfect 11-0 record.
Improving all summer long, Junior 2 engineered a strong campaign finishing with a 16-16-1 record. Riding a strong finish to the regular season winning 7 of their last 10, Junior 2 continued this play in the playoffs and finished 3rd in the District 22 Tournament. This team comprised of nearly all freshmen competed with teams composed of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
To have such successful seasons requires talented players, dedicated coaches, and supportive parents. Eight of the nine volunteer coaches this past summer were Hilgard players. A special thanks goes out to each of our coaches who spent countless hours to make each team's season a success. We would also like to thank the parents for their continual support of their own child, his teammates, and all the program's volunteers.
As is the case year in and year out, each of the Hilgard teams enjoyed enormous fan support. We would like to thank the parents, grandparents, siblings, extended relatives, friends, former players, and fans of American Legion Baseball who attended the games this past summer. A special thanks also goes out to the Left Field Lunatics who brought energy, showmanship, and smiles to many of our faces.
The 71st season of Hilgard baseball featured strong performance on the field and enjoyed tremendous community support. We are thankful for both and hope the 72nd season in 2014 features more of the same.
